SpiralDreams / Modifying (S) DNA Vol 1

£12.99 £9.95

‘Modifying (S) DNA Vol 1’ (Vol 2 is already recorded) is quite a bit different to the other album we have released  at the same time (‘Another World Vol 1’). That was much more 70’s leaning Berlin School. This album still has sequences pretty much all the way through it but has a more contemporary and edgy feel. More risks are taken and the boundaries stretched (though not to the breaking point!). It all makes for one heck of a listening experience. Give the sound samples below a listen to see what I mean.

After a few years break the Neu Harmony label has returned. The first two releases are by Spiral Dreams but there should be many more to come.

As is to be expected, since Neu Harmony was mainly known for releasing Berlin School albums (AirSculpture, Under The Dome, Javi Canovas, Kubusschnitt, Arcane etc) the relaunch has been with a brace of sequencer drenched epics. You might not have heard of SpiralDreams but hardly anyone had heard of the above names either before they appeared on Neu Harmony.

Every track from SpiralDreams (who comes from Hungary) is heavy on the sequences. Vast stonking sequences! The note patterns are mesmerizing . They will entice you in and keep a firm hold. The tracks tend to be of a 10 to 20 minute duration. Even though each track is based around a sequence there are also lead lines and melodies but these (with the occasional exception) tend to be slow and atmospheric, rather than of the axe man variety, complimenting the driving pulsations perfectly.

Give the above sound samples a listen to see what I mean.

Of course I am going to say that this album is absolutely essential to any lover of Sequencer based Music (as Neu Harmony is my label) but would I have really gone to the bother of releasing it, if I didn’t  think it was amazing stuff? SpiralDreams deserves a wider audience and to be on a par with those acts I have mentioned above. Please at least, as mentioned, give the sound samples a listen. I have given one for each track and they are very representative of the whole album.
